So, es wird mal langsam Zeit, dass ich den letzten Urlaub Revue passieren lasse. Ein Hinweis für diejenigen, die es nicht von selbst schon bemerkt haben: Wenn man sich ein Bild anschaut, kann man einfach in die rechte Hälfte klicken um ein Bild weiter zu kommen. Ich wollte nur kurz verkünden, dass wir aus unserem Schweden-Urlaub zurück sind. Eine Zusammenfassung der Ereignisse sowie Fotos gibt es dann die nächsten Tage
Ich bin ja grundsätzlich ein Fan von quell-offenen Sachen, weil sich einfach jeder mit einbringen kann und es normalerweise nichts kostet… :wink:
Bekanntestes Beispiel in dieser Richtung dürfte wohl für Otto-Normal-Internet-Nutzer Wikipedia sein. Man hat auf alles Zugriff und die Besucher der Seite dürfen den Inhalt verbessern, wenn sie etwas beizutragen haben.
Ein ähnliches Projekt, welches ich jetzt seit einer Weile gelegentlich unterstütze, ist OpenStreetMap (so etwas wie Wikipedia, nur für Straßen- bzw. Landkarten). Ich bin immer noch sehr begeistert, wie die Sache von den Freiwilligen unterstützt und weitergetrieben wird und sehe wirklich eine gute Zukunft für das Projekt.
OK, genug um den heißen Brei geschwafelt und zurück zur Überschrift: Als Anja und ich vor einer Weile mit dem Geocaching angefangen hatten, habe ich mich ja ein bisschen umgesehen und opencaching.de als meine favorisierte Datenbank auserkoren. Kostenlos, schnell und man bekommt die GPX-Dateien (Datenformat für das GPSr-Gerät) einfach zum Download.
Klingt alles ganz wunderbar, wäre es an sich auch…wenn denn die Unterstützung der breiten Masse vorhanden wäre. Innerhalb Deutschlands mag das Projekt bisher ganz gut ankommen und es gibt in der Datenbank für alle möglichen Gegenden Einträge, aber sobald man mal ins Ausland schaut, sieht es schon wieder sehr ernüchternd aus :sad:
Nehme ich als Beispiel einfach mal Schweden:
opencaching.de – ca. 15 Einträge
geocaching.com – ca. 1100 Einträge
Da musste ich dann wohl leider eingesehen, dass opencaching.de entweder im Moment noch seiner Zeit voraus ist und die Bekanntheit noch steigen wird oder (was ich nicht hoffe) bereits niemanden mehr interessiert und nur noch von wenigen Leuten unterstützt wird.
Ich habe also gestern leider schweren Herzens bei geocaching.com einen Account registriert und auch gleich für den Pro-Service bezahlt, damit man den Dienst ordentlich nutzen kann. Denn dort muss man leider für die oben erwähnten GPX-Dateien 30 Dollar im Jahr zahlen. Ich weiß natürlich, dass es diverse Möglichkeiten gibt, auch anders an diese Daten zu kommen, aber das will ich nun auch wieder nicht. Man ist ja schließlich grundsätzlich bereit, für eine Leistung etwas zu zahlen.
In Zukunft werde ich also wohl leider hauptsächlich bei geocaching.com sein und nur noch Logs bei opencaching.de eintragen, sofern die Caches dort auch registriert sind.
Zu guter Letzt möchte ich noch sagen: Ich finde opencaching.de grundsätzlich sehr gut und die Betreiber reagieren (sofern möglich) schnell auf Wünsche und Verbesserungsvorschläge. Aber die Datenbank ist (im Moment) leider speziell im internationalen Raum leider zu klein, als das man das Projekt als ernsthafte Konkurrenz zum Platzhirsch geocaching.com sehen könnte.
Noch nicht einmal 2007 vorbei, da wird schon für den nächsten Sommer geplant. Es soll für 2 Wochen nach Schweden gehen
Die vorläufige Route kann man sich bei Google Maps schon mal ansehen.
